چکیده
Calciphylaxis is a poorly understood and highly morbid syndrome of vascular calcification and skin necrosis, first reported it in 1898. The term ‘calciphylaxis’ was introduced in 1962 to characterize the syndrome of vascular calcification with cutaneous. The clinical importance of this syndrome was not recognized until a 1976 report by Gipstein et al, but since then, a multitude of case reports of calciphylaxis have documented data outlining its morbidity and therapeutic dilemmas, as well as attempting to gain a better understanding of its aetiology and pathogenesis.

The calcium invasion: Calciphylaxis in Lupus.
Calciphylaxis is a poorly understood and highly morbid syndrome of vascular calcification and skin necrosis. We describe the case of a 52-year old woman with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), inappropriately treated with oral steroids for 18-years who developed renal impairment followed by skin necrosis and gangrene of right hand. She had subcutaneous calcium deposition with bilateral renal s...

Calciphylaxis is a vascular calcification-cutaneous necrosis syndrome, usually seen in patients with end-stage renal disease and secondary hyperparathyroidism. We report a 57-year-old polyneuropathy, organomegaly, endocrinopathy, monoclonal gammopathy, and skin changes (POEMS) syndrome patient complicated with extensive skin ulcers due to calciphylaxis. He first noted a painful cutaneous ulcer ...

BACKGROUND Calciphylaxis is a syndrome consisting of vascular calcification, thrombosis, and skin necrosis. The syndrome develops often in chronic hemodialysis patients. However, there have been several case reports on calciphylaxis in patients with POEMS (polyneuropathy, organomegaly, endocrinopathy, M-protein, and skin changes) syndrome, a systemic disease associated with plasma cell dyscrasi...

The prevalence of vascular calcification among patients with CKD, especially those on dialysis, is reported to be more than 80% [1]. Coronary artery calcification leading to c...
متن کاملCalciphylaxis: Controversies in Pathogenesis, Diagnosis and Treatment.
Calcific uremic arteriolopathy, otherwise known as calciphylaxis, is a rare disease characterized by skin ulceration and tissue necrosis, likely the result of vascular calcification with accompanying intimal hypertrophy and small vessel thrombosis. Although most often associated with end-stage renal disease, it has also been seen in a number of other disorders (collectively referred to as nonur...
